More DeRusha on Zubaz: And how I got the Story
UPDATE: WATCH/READ MY WCCO-TV ZUBAZ STORY HERE.
I never had a pair of Zubaz. In 1986, when Zubaz launched in Roseville, Minn., this is what I looked like in suburban Chicago:
Maybe I needed Zubaz. At any rate, almost 22 years later, this is what I look like with the new zebra print on:
Note the boots:
You can tell how Raul feels about the Zubaz:
If you want to buy Zubaz (in time for the holidays), this will take you to the online store. A mere $29 a pair. A young lady in my story tried on a pair, pretended to love them, and then took a pass when I offered to let her keep them. Funny.
I thought you’d be interested to know how I found out about this story. My friend, Alexis, wrote about Zubaz being back in her blog. I e-mailed Alexis, who sent me to a friend who is helping the Zubaz guys with PR. That was on November 7. The PR guy told me that Dan Stock and his business partner didn’t want to do any publicity yet. They were hoping for attention to build virally, and hoping for time to get more merchandise in their warehouse.
Then, another blog I read daily, Metroblogging Minneapolis, wrote about it on November 14. So I e-mailed and made the PR guy promise that I’d be the first guy to do the story. He did.
Then this showed up on the front page of today’s Pioneer Press. I was a little miffed. The marketing guy gave me the e-mail for Dan Stock, and I set up the story for tonight.
I considered not doing the story at all, just because I was upset at how this went down, but I couldn’t deny you people the comedy gold that is me walking around in Zubaz.
