Soldier's Blog Becomes Memorial

Last night, I covered the story of Bill Juneau, the former Chisago County Sheriff’s Deputy who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. The video’s here. Juneau worked as a contractor for DynCorp.

I focused on his blog, which has only been up for about three months. But it’s an interesting look into life over there. His last entry has become a memorial, with people commenting to send their condolences to Bill’s Minnesota family. [Via MinnMonitor]

I believe this war will have the most first-person reports and stories from the battlefield than any war in our history. Blog publishing is so easy, it can be done anywhere. Bill’s twin sister told me that her brother focused on the good, and skipped over most of the bad of being in Baghdad. It’ll be interesting as soldiers continue to come home to see which military blogs become books, and what kind of tone the stories take on.

At any rate, if you want, go over to Bill’s blog and send a positive wish to his family. As a contractor, he got paid for his work. But there are easier ways to make big money. It sure seems like Bill was over there because he wanted to do some good. If you want to find out more about his funeral arrangements, his sisters are asking you to send them an e-mail.
